In case you haven't heard the dozens of reports about it, a 6-yr old tried to drive himself to school and wrecked. This is an interesting story, and luckily nobody was hurt. But, it just seems to me that this story is getting hype for absolutely the wrong reasons.
For some reason, everyone seems to focus on the fact that the kid said he "had an idea about how to start, propel and steer the car from playing video games" (Washington Post): And, my favorite:
Jesus fucking christ, has anyone actually played Grand Theft Auto? Or driven a car for that matter? Here's a little GTA spoiler: - You don't have to find keys to drive cars.
- You don't have to unlock the door.
- You don't have to start the ignition.
- You don't have to release the parking brake.
- You don't have to shift the car into "Drive" from "Park".
All you have to do is run up to a car and press triangle on the PS3 controller. How is that anything like driving a car? What the hell is a six year old doing playing Grand Theft Auto anyway? Hell, I've played Flight Simulator so next time I'm late somewhere I'll just steal a plane and fly there...*rollseyes*
I've got a better headline for the story: Neglected 6yr Old Risks Life Driving To School For Breakfast. Am I the only one that is more upset about the fact that this kids piece of shit "mother" wasn't even conscious to make sure her six year old child got to school safely? Am I the only one who's stomach churned when I read the following line? "He was just bound and determined," Wilkins said, "he did not want to miss breakfast and PE." The meal "may have been his primary goal," the sheriff said. - Washington Post
Yeah, no, it was definitely all those gosh-darn-dog-gone vidya games that are to blame for this kid risking his own life and the lives of everyone on the road. What the fuck is wrong with Americuh? There is a 6yr old child who is so worried about getting to eat that he decides to drive a car to school in order to do so, and all we fucking want to talk about is that he may have gotten his driving skills from playing GTA? Shit, maybe someone should make a video game about how to raise a kid for his parents to play... |
