If you live in the U.S. you have undoubtedly encountered an overtly "patriotic" person who strongly claims the United States of America is the best country in the world. This sentiment is often simply expressed as, "Americuh Number 1!" Although there is absolutely nothing wrong with having an opinion, there is a huge problem with blindly believing something, shoving it down everyone's throat, and repressing/attacking anyone who dares think otherwise. Even worse, this "patriotic outcry" often comes from people who have never been to another country (or another town for that matter) and have no real understanding about not only how the world, but even how their own country works. But perhaps the absolute worst part about this ignorant statement is that it is dangerous to the United States of America as a whole. Even if there was a real way to measure what is "best" and the U.S. truly was the "best" country in the world, what does this really mean? If life were a football game and the U.S. won the "Superbowl of Life" does this mean we can all go back home, sit on the couch, drink a 6-pack and eat chicken wings for the rest of the year? No. The #1 teams don't get there by yelling "[team name] Number 1!" They practice non stop to make sure they stay number 1. What have you done to make the U.S. a better place lately? The fact is, the people who scream about the U.S. being the best often don't do anything to make the U.S. any better. In fact, they push the other way: to preserve the status quo, to repress innovation, to dumb everyone down. Bill Maher once said, "There are two Americas. There's a progressive European America that a lot of us live in or would like to live in, and it's being strangled by the Sarah Palins of the world and can't quite be born because this other stupid redneck nation won't allow it." Well, I for one am sick and tired of "Americuh" strangling the rest of the U.S. What these "Americuhns" don't seem to understand that to be the best, we have to strive to be better than the best. To be number one we have to strive for perfection--and the U.S. has a long way to go. I love this country, and I want to see it become even better. The goal of this website is to provide an incentive for everyone to make the U.S. a better place, to help push the U.S. in the right direction. To do so this website will expose and shame "Americuhns" and their stupidity, while at the same time show-off and praise the intelligent/creative/awesome people and their accomplishments. If you would like to make a suggestion for an article on this website, please don't hesitate to send your idea.
